I don't often write about expensive, mostly out-of-reach fashion brands, but Dior demands our attention. As one of the oldest and favored iconic fashion houses, it's reign on fashion's tradition and design are obvious. Founded in 1904 by Christian Dior (pictured below), this label stands for luxury, femininity and what most are unaware of - sustainability. Although most definitely not an affordable solution, from its most basic practices, it models what can only be seen as sustainable practices.

In one word, Dior explains its sustainability - handmade. It's also the primary reason its not likely favored by the pocketbook. Despite the monetary costs, there is something to seriously be said to the notion of a powerhouse brand, who could easily sellout, continue to honor the practice of creating things by hand. And not just any 'things' - pieces of art.
From the beginnings, to now, Dior continues to honor fashion and the integrity of the brand by designing and curating one-of-a-kind pieces. They continue to use their name to celebrate women and steer the fashion community towards making a difference in the world.

Beyond there hand-made designs, they've committed the company to reduce greenhouse emissions, along with using eco-friendly materials in many of their designs. Truly, they are a fashion house to be adored. And, they are adored and adorned by those who have the luxury to do so.
One of my favorite Dior moments is seen on Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex in the City. Of course, she wore many designers, but when she wore Dior it frankly took my breath away.
Dior, now under the artistic hands of John Galliano, remains to lead and captivate us in art, in luxury and now, in sustainability. To wear them is an honor. To know of them, is an example.
(For affordable places to find this sustainable icon, seek out Poshmark, Bag, Borrow & Steal, and of course, your local boutiques.)
